like Christmas morning..

When I first started my blog a couple of weeks ago, I immediately wrote to a few companies inquiring if I could review some of their products if they could send me some samples. I didn’t hear any responses, but last night I came home to some presents from Santa! http://www.tryabouttime.com/ sent me some packs of their protein powders (love that they come in portable packs!) and 2 of their delicious sounding protein bars to try and review! Seriously, this was like Christmas morning for me. I have dreamed about being a blogger/writer and doing reviews! I will be trying these all week and doing a review this weekend! So exciting for me 🙂

Speaking of protein, yesterday I tried to focus on high protein, lower carb foods for the day. I would NEVER omit any food  group completely, so I say lower hesitantly because I don’t want to give the wrong impression! Let’s just say, I consumed enough carbs this weekend to last me until the NYC marathon next month. Many boxes bowls of cereal were consumed that didn’t get pictured, and trust me I enjoyed every bite! I even had a ton of energy yesterday despite getting less than 4 hours of sleep, catching the 3 AM bus back to NYC, traveling 4 hours, and working 10 hours. I knew I wasn’t running yesterday and it’s the only time I would cut back on carbs. It’s all about balance! If I want to consume a whole box of Oatmeal Squares in a weekend, then I’ll just make sure I up my protein for a day or 2 after. I also drank even more water than usual… this means I drank 85 bottles of water instead of 70. If at any time I wanted more carbs, I would have had more (and did, around lunch!) By the end of the day, my bloated belly had gone down 🙂 Here’s the foods from yesterday:

3 egg whites, vanilla protein powder w/ light vanilla soymilk

I LOVE THAT BLENDER BOTTLE!! It comes with a little whisk ball inside that mixes all of your ingredients together so good! Protein powder is usually hard to mix, but not with this bottle!

Flatout light whole wheat wrap w/ natural peanut buttaa

Flatout brand wraps are my favorite. 90 calories for the light version, and 9 grams of protein!

I went on a power 2.22 mile walk on my lunch, and was craving a black iced coffee. This Starbucks is inside a grocery store and they had samples of these awesome chocolate covered pop cake things. 45 calories for one.. I had half.

greek yogurt mixed w/ chocolate protein powder, frozen strawberries, and almonds.. choc covered strawberries? tasted like it!

PUMPKIN SEEDS! sooo salty

Came home to the Jillian yoga DVD and lifting book I ordered! Plus my review sample goodies 🙂

snacking on mixed nut butter by the spoon.. i'm an addict.

After a terribly long day, I had to go grocery shopping at Trader Joe’s. I love this, but by the time we got home I was too tired to make dinner! I decided it was a good time to try out one of the protein sample packets. I used the chocolate with some unsweetened vanilla almond milk and what else… PEANUT BUTTER. Review coming this weekend 🙂

Today has been a great Tuesday so far. Caitlin and I joined an AMAZING gym in midtown near her apartment because there was a crazy deal on it from dealfind.com. It’s only an extra 15 minute subway ride for me, plus I can shower and get ready for work thanks to the showers and TOWEL SERVICE! Planet Fitness, I still love you but you do not offer towel service and I am not lugging around wet towels on my 4.5 mile walk to work. Plus they have classes and a pool. It’s heavenly. I will fill you in on the awesome-ness of this gym and how the feel of midtown Manhattan can make any Tuesday better! 🙂
