I love me some carbs

Yesterday’s workout: 15 min weights/abs + 5 mile run (8:13 pace)

Today’s workout: 30 min weights/abs + 3.5 mile run (7:41 pace)… 50 min spin class later tonight!

Once I started running regularly, I learned that carbs are not the enemy but a very important fuel source for both short bursts of energy and sustained energy. In my year of weight loss, I cut back on carbs (never cut OUT) and lost a ton of energy. I actually feel better and lose weight faster when I am eating whole grains and lots of fruits and vegetables. NYC has some of the best carbs around 🙂 Here are a few beauties I’ve eaten the last few weeks:

Whole wheat oatmeal raisin bagel from Brooklyn Bagel. Hands down best bagel I’ve eaten.

Proscuitto & mozzerella on a baguette from Obika Mozzerella Bar

BEST SANDWICH IN NYC: The vegetarian w/ chicken from Macaron Cafe. Oxy moron, I know. Avacado, tomato, carrot, egg, light french mayo & chicken on a french baguette. My co-workers order this every day, literally.

French macarons provide that quick energy due to the 89 grams of sugar in them 🙂

Belgian waffle with cookie spread and whipped cream from the delicious Waffles & Dinges cart outside Columbus Circle. I think 98% of successful marathoners eat this, I’ve heard..

My parents are not carbs but I love them too! They came to visit a few weekends ago and I made them eat lots of carbs. Waffles, pizza, burgers&fries, pretzels. They thought I ate only healthy. Woops.

What is your favorite carb (complex or simple? Shhh i won’t tell if it’s not whole grain THIS time 😉

Honestly mine is really good whole grain bread or oatmeal with bananas. Right now, I’m eating a delicious bowl of oats.

In the mix:

– 1/4 cup Old Wessex 5 grain oats

– 1/4 cup wheat bran

– 1/2 tbsp chia seeds

– 1/2 scoop vanilla protein powder

– 1/4 cup light vanilla soy milk

– cinnamon & pumpkin pie spice

Nuked and topped with banana slices, frozen blueberries, sugar free syrup and peanut butter. So good. So good to be eating this bowl of warmness on my couch and not at my desk at work! I love having a weekday off 🙂

I’m feeling really tired and like a cold is looming in me. I am going to rest for awhile today even though it’s really hard for me to. I hate being lazy on a day off from work! At least I got a good workout in. I can’t be sick for new years eve… my dress is way too cute!
