Last week, I took 4 full rest days. Pretty unheard of in my workout-crazed life. I worked out a ton on Monday, but was very unmotivated the rest of the week. Every day I kept feeling so run down and like I could have fallen asleep standing up. My stomach was bothering me all week too, so I pretty much was eating nothing but carbs that are easy to digest. I took a few days off of work, so I went upstate for a couple of days and got a lot of rest. Saturday morning I attempted a 3 mile run, but had to cut it short at 2.88 miles because of how sick I felt. I came back to the city late that night, and woke up Sunday to meet friends at Central Park to get some sun. We had an awesome time, and definitely got tan!
Dinner was an awesome middle-eastern platter at a diner, which was basically a huge plate of pita, hummus, and vegetables. So good!
I also had 16 Handles (an obvious thing on cheat day) but was too busy shoveling it in my face to take a picture 🙂
I ended up sleeping in quite a bit today and was pretty much dreading getting back into my workout routine. I went to bed excited for it, but I really can’t stand sleeping in late. I know I have needed the extra sleep, but since I really can’t run if I eat anything and I had just slept almost 11 hours, I was STARVING! I drank a lot of water and coffee and knew a few minutes into the run I’d be fine, which I was. I decided to run to the gym in my neighborhood (Planet Fitness) since I wanted to lift weights. I did a little warm-up run and then got to the gym 2.38 miles later, all downhill. It was extremely humid by this time but my legs felt great! I got to the gym and got right into Day 1 of Jamie Eason’s LiveFit program. Pumped up and inspired by my amazing friend Emily, I am really excited to incorporate this plan into my workouts. Emily has been following the program consistently, and has seen amazing results! Right now I am planning on following it loosely, as I can’t give up cardio unless someone was paying me a huge sum of money 😉 Plus, cardio makes me extremely happy! I also will not be doing the “leg” day. My legs shape up very fast and also build muscle fast, but I like my legs to be leaner and I achieve that through running and lots of body weight exercises (squats/lunges). I will still be doing Jillian Michaels 1-2 times per week with my friend Caitlin as well, unless it starts to hinder my ability to start lifting heavier. Pretty excited for this experiment!
Last week I had done day 1 of this plan which focuses on chest/triceps and I used 8 lb weights. I was sore for 4 days. This is no joke! I also cannot get over the fact that I can do REAL push-ups now! I am stronger than I thought 🙂 Today I upped my weights to 10 lbs and 12.5 lbs, and 10 hours later I still feel as though someone is pinning my arms behind me. I love being sore! One of the best parts of this program is how short the workouts are. With rest included, the workout took me about 22 minutes. Coupled with about 23 minutes of running before, and 20 minutes after, it was a solid hour-long workout! PS- the running back home after lifting was pretty killer since it was completely uphill and even more humid and hot. Loved it!
Grand total of 4.2 miles for the day. Refueled with protein pancakes, obviously! I went out to run some errands and brought along a quick and easy lunch.
I am LOVING the new line of Kind bars that have less than 5 grams of sugar! They are still delicious, but I am definitely sugar-conscious and it can be hard to find a good bar with little sugar.
I picked up some groceries at Trader Joe’s, then made a random, easy and delicious dinner.
Green beans with goat cheese and a honey dijon sauce, egg white broccoli omelet with a fried runny egg, organic ketchup & hot sauce. It was done in 10 minutes, packed with protein for my sore muscles and super good!
Now I am going to make a green monster protein smoothie of some sort as my dessert and then get to bed. I am back to work tomorrow and have a super early breakfast meeting at a fancy restaurant! Hopefully I’ll be able to snap a pic of whatever I order without looking too weird! 😉
Have you ever followed Jamie Eason or a program like hers to start lifting heavier?
Could you ever give up cardio?
