I am really excited to be writing this post right now. I have awesome things to share from the past few days, so get ready! Disclaimer: you will only be excited to read this if you love all things running and food related. You’ve been warned.
This past Friday, I had my idea of a perfect Friday. I woke up and ran 5 miles that morning and stumbled upon a free concert in Central Park. It’s part of a series of concerts that happen every Friday of the summer, and this day it was One Republic. It reminded me how lucky I am to be able to run in such a historical part of NYC and all the amazingly cool things that go on in it!
After work, I ran 2 miles uptown to meet my co-worker and good friend Sabrina for dinner. We went to Panera, which just recently opened in NYC. It’s the only real “fast-food” place I’ll eat it, and I absolutely love their chicken greek salad.
After dinner, and another 2 miles walked/jogged, this happened.
Sprinkles cupcakes! These are the best cupcakes I’ve had in NYC so far. I had the pumpkin flavor on the right side, and the other flavor was S’mores which was also amazing. They were also much smaller than Crumbs, and just far better. Running + dinner with friends who don’t mind you sweating at dinner + cupcakes = my dream Friday night.
I woke up Saturday with the intention of running 7 miles, but my legs were dead from the 8 miles the day/night before, not to mention I had my first encounter with under-boob chafing. Seriously, ouch. After working all day, I was in bed by 9. Sunday my legs were still extremely sore, so I figured I would chalk Friday’s unexpected extra mileage up to being my long run of the week.
Sunday after work I was out eating my face off, as most Sunday’s go. A failed piece of veggie pizza (seriously, never had pizza so gross) turned into fries and the most delicious thing ever at Shake Shack! Vanilla custard mixed with pieces of heath bar and these chocolate crunchy things. I didn’t even take a picture because I was having trouble breathing as I inhaled it.
Yesterday morning I had the day off of work (pretty sure having a Monday off after working a weekend is the best thing ever) and made it a very productive day. I threw a load of laundry into the washer, ran 2 miles while it was going, threw it in the dryer then busted out Jillian Michael’s Ripped in 30 Level 2. Let’s just say after close to 2 months of no Jillian, I can barely walk today. And that’s even with me lifting quite frequently in those 2 months! She is no.joke.
I followed up my workouts with an amazing batch of peanut butter protein pancakes. I used the same recipe I pretty much always do:
- 1/3 cup oats
- 1/2 scoop protein powder
- 1 tsp chia seeds
- 3 egg whites
- 1/2 mashed banana
- about 1/2 tsp baking powder (for fluffiness!)
I topped these with PB2, the other 1/2 of the banana, sugar free syrup and coconut oil peanut butter. I gulped down the rest of my morning coffee over ice with unsweetened vanilla almond milk and splenda.
The star of the protein pancakes is using my favorite protein powder ever! Seriously this is the only kind I’ve ever loved enough to drink just with milk. The great part is I get it at Wal-Mart for $15! One of the cheapest powders out there, but totally delicious.
I took my craziness to the next level after letting my food digest by running another 5.25 miles. I figured, I needed to go to Trader Joe’s anyways and it was pretty much exactly 5 miles from my apartment. It was an awesome run, and my legs felt really great even on the rolling hills through Harlem! I shopped my sweaty self all over Trader Joe’s, getting the usuals.
I also finally enjoyed a Zico chocolate coconut water! Tasted just like chocolate milk. Very refreshing after a long run and it comforted me as people stared at me on the train for having sweat all over and probably smelling like a locker room.
My excitement for TODAY came in the form of a 3 mile run this morning (super slow, super hilly, super SORE legs!) and then coming home from work with a terrible stomach ache (as per usual) but finding THIS!
The amazing folks at P28 High Protein Bread & Bagels were kind enough to send me a box of their products to review for you and try! I have never been so excited. I will do a full review in the next few days after trying them, but I can tell you right now I dug into 1/2 a bagel, toasted it up with some PB2 & cinnamon. My world is officially rocked.
What is exciting in your world?
