So… 2013 hasn’t been off to the greatest start. Actually, in it’s defense, 2012 just seems to not want to let go. I have been sick for close to a month now… starting off with a cold that kept lingering and turned into a nasty cough. I’ve had to miss multiple days of work, barely could drink/stay out on New Years Eve and worst of all- not work out. I worked out for the first 2 weeks of the cold before it turned into a bad cough, and then I could barely talk without coughing hard. I went upstate to visit my family Friday and felt like I got worse traveling there, so I finally went to a doctor and was pretty sure I had to have bronchitis. Turns out, I have a sinus infection and a double ear infection, which were causing the drip that made my cough get so bad. I got an anti-biotic and 4 days later, I’m only feeling slightly better! This is by far the worst sickness I’ve had since I had the flu almost 4 years ago. The only thing that has made this not flu-esque is I’ve had no stomach problems (more than usual, anyways) and no body aches. But my symptoms have been worse than just the common cold, and obviously lasting forever so I have been pretty miserable. Of course my appetite has still been the same, so the hard work I put into the few weeks before the holidays have pretty much gone out the window. Nonetheless, I am still staying positive because I refuse to let this year hold me down! I went out for an extremely slow 2.5 mile jog/walk today and can barely believe how much endurance can be lost from being sick for a few weeks! My legs were also pretty shaky. I know in a couple of weeks I’ll be back to where I was, but it’s really frustrating right now.
Anyways, on to a few positive and yummy things. I found these goodies while I was upstate!
The cereal was honestly just too sweet. I had a few handfuls, but I couldn’t have a full bowl! I had to grab these Chobani’s because I feel like they will be hard to find here in NYC. I tried the caramel with pineapple and loved how small they are! I also tried the key lime crumble and it is SO GOOD! The crumbled graham crackers and little white chocolate chips make it taste like a dessert. I didn’t get a chance to try the almond coco loco but I will be on the look out for these in the city!
Last night I got out of my apartment for a little bit to walk around, grab some coffee and food with John and get some froyo. I mean, I need the probiotics since I’m on an antibiotic right?
My taste buds are currently undergoing some changes. Not sure if it’s just from being sick, but lately I haven’t been into oatmeal or a lot of my usual eats. I usually overload the chocolate toppings when I get froyo, but have been more into lighter toppings. I really haven’t been craving sugar much at all, which I am very thankful for 🙂 I’ve been kinda obsessed with eggs, bacon, potatoes, veggies, cheese, fruit. Almost paleo, if it weren’t for that darn cheese! I made a little paleo breakfast this morning and it really hit the spot!
I sauteed 1/2 of a chopped sweet potato with red onion, 2 eggs, 4 egg whites with zucchini, 2 pieces of turkey bacon, all cooked with coconut oil cooking spray, with organic ketchup, hot sauce and 1/2 of a cantaloupe on the side. The sweet potato with onion and cantaloupe were STRONG cravings I started having before I fell asleep last night. This was a legit meal that held me over for over 4 hours! Yum. Sometimes you just need to switch it up 😉
And now… back to drinking tea and resting in bed. I’m almost sick of being in bed watching Law & Order:SVU… but not really.
