Shakeology + Amazing Weekend

Recently a cool kat named Markus that I’ve “known” on MyFitnessPal for a few years now was nice enough to send me a packet of Shakeology to try! I’ve heard so much about this, along with the awesome workouts that BeachBody promotes, but I also know the price tag so I’ve never been able to try it. With my recent elimination of whey protein from my diet, I asked to try the vegan tropical strawberry flavor.

One of these packets is equivalent to 1 scoop, and one thing you should know about me with my protein powders is that I never use more than 1/2 a scoop or packet at a time. It’s just personal taste preference, no matter what the protein. So my first order of business was to use 1/2 of the packet in some overnight oats. I knew this would be the best taste test for me because some proteins just do NOT go well with overnight oats. Heated up, sure, you might be able to mask a bad taste. But cold overnight oats do not hide any of the flavors of what you put in. In an almost empty PB jar went:

  • 1/3 cup oats
  • 1/2 tbsp chia seeds
  • 1/2 packet tropical strawberry Shakeology
  • 1/4 cup light vanilla soymilk
  • 1/2 cup + more in the AM water

100% delicious. Tasted like PB&J in a jar! Shakeology is naturally sweet but also sweetened with stevia, so there is no need to add additional sweetener to it, in my opinion.

2nd order of business was to make a big protein smoothie in a bowl, or protein ice cream. Whatever you wanna call it. In my Ninja blender went:

  • 1/2 packet tropical strawberry Shakeology
  • 4 ice cubes
  • frozen banana slices
  • 1.25 cup unsweetened almond coconut milk
  • 1/4 cup light vanilla soy milk
  • 1/3 cup strawberry Chobani
  • 1/2 tsp xantham gum (for thickening)

Delicious protein “ice cream” obviously calls for rainbow sprinkles! (AllieΒ I know you want to murder me for not calling them jimmies)

On to the freakin’ weeken’. BEST one I’ve had in so long. I had ZERO stomach pains (except for being nauseous saturday night) due to the amount of relaxation I was feeling. My 3 day weekend started Friday by sleeping in, then heading to Rockaway Beach for the day to visit my mom and her best friend Joyce.

Oh yeah… no running at all this weekend, but I did bust out a great 5 miler this morning fueled by all those carbs πŸ˜‰

How was your weekend? Any beach time?

  1. I agree, a whole scoop of protein powder can give an overpowering taste. You have a ninja?! I’ve been doing my research on it for months because I’m too cheap..errm broke…to spend $500 on a Vitamix. Do you like yours?

    • YES! My boyfriend’s mom gave it to me over a year ago for my birthday and they run about $30-$50 depending on the model. I don’t juice so I don’t know if it can do that but I don’t think it can.. it makes a mean protein ice cream/ banana soft serve, and that’s all I really care about πŸ™‚ They come in fun colors too!
